Overview

Presented here is an overview of Hvalla’s history. The timeline of world events is a memory that echoes through your realms. The deeds of your characters will have ripples that carry across the world and may earn a place on this timeline. Seas rise and fall. Lands quake and groan, rising high up into peaks and falling low into valleys. Plants grow, waters rush. Wargs love, fight, and die. All things begin and end. This is Hvalla.

Creation to Present Day

fimbulvetr, the great winter

From the Great Winter, step the first warg. Said to have been forged from the primal elements of the world by Fenrir and Jord, they make Hvalla their home. Fenrir and Jord each task their sons and daughters with maintaining the balance of life in Hvalla. As their final gift, Fenrir and Jord plant the Seed of Yggdrasil before retreating into the depths of the world.

2nd winter from awakening (hereafter titled a)

With no unifying leader and divided on how best to fulfill the task given to them, the wargs of Hvalla form rudimentary, nomadic clans separated by race and disperse.

2-100 a

The Seed of Yggdrasil takes root in the form of magical ley lines that spread throughout Hvalla. Wargs begin to exhibit latent magical talents and slowly gain hold of territory as they master their newfound abilities.

153 a

The Clan Wars begin, and those who will become known as the First Kings rise from each of the races and unite them beneath a single banner of their people. Runewards created from the magic of each race are placed in each corner of the warg territories. The city of Wargrun is founded by Valbrand of Clan Ormgard, First King of the Stonewarg.

160 a

The city of Ljosa is founded by Havardr of Clan Forra-Yr, First King of the Woodwarg.

200 a

Keepers – Oracles and Skalds, Wargs who have dedicated themselves to enforcing the laws of Fenrir and Jord between all races, rally together to demand a parlay between the First Kings. The meeting is tense but productive, and the Keepers devise a way to maintain the balance between the races of Hvalla and the land.

467 a

Tensions rise again between the children of Jord and Fenrir as they squabble amongst themselves for territory. The races do not see the gifts the others possess, only what makes them different. Trade ceases between the Stonewarg and Woodwarg.

493 a

One of the First Kings is assassinated, and no one claims the crime. The peace is broken and the children of Jord, reeling from their loss, attack the children of Fenrir. Hvalla descends into an all-out war.

587 a

Grothgar of Clan Gravenrail, First King of the Icewarg, is the only monarch to survive the conflict. He withdraws into the icy depths of his homeland, taking his people far from the other warg races. There is a truce, but peace comes at the expense of a shattered society. He founds the city of Iringard as a stronghold for his kind.

588-842 a

Cities rise and fall throughout the ages while civil and interracial wars erupt. There are peace lines drawn, and trade routes formed, but distrust remains. The significance of the Runewards erodes with time, and Yggdrasil has disappeared from the world. So caught up are the wargs of Hvalla with their struggles against one another that balance begins to falter. Shadows grow unchecked in the darkness.

843 an early winter

The Runewards that protect every city in Hvalla are struck by a wave of dark forces. Children of Fenrir and Jord alike fall to creatures with no name. In the morning, three cities remain who have successfully repelled the hordes, even without the strength of their Runewards to protect them.

844-846

The wargs of Hvalla struggle to overcome the challenges that are thrown their way. In the icy North, trouble plagues their King and he goes missing in an expedition to get to the bottom of what is happening to their realm. The Icewarg are left without a ruler. In the East, the downtrodden have overthrown their oppressors and the Stonewarg are uniting once more to wipe out the remainder of Ironforge and Riverford. In the West, the Fog is struggling to be upheld, several important areas have been lost including Hunters Bank and the settlement of Ljosa-El.
