Lae-Daudr Clan

of the woodwarg

Clan Origins

Home City: Ljosa in the Forest of Glime
The Lae-Daudr clan decided to stay and base themselves in Ljosa even as they became a separate clan under Hnuun. While they drifted away from their alliance with the Forra-Yr over time, their rituals revolving around the Sapling are still integral to their clan and settlements that house the Lae-Daudr boast some of the finest farms and huntsmen in Alfheim.

The Lae-Daudr Clan was formed by a Warg called Hnuun who had once served as a bodyguard for the First King. During her long and faithful tenure, Hnuun traveled far and experienced much of the wider world known to the woodwarg. When away from her duties she spent much of her time trading tales with local wargs, sometimes favoring them with rousing tunes as she strummed her infamous lyre. When the First King’s entourage at last returned to Ljosa after a particularly long tour, Hnuun was called by the winds of change, and the two parted amicably. She founded her clan on the tenets of revelry and camaraderie that she’d learned throughout her storied life, and the Lae-Daudr came into being. The First King never forgot his foremost bodyguard, and sturdy wargs of Hnuun’s clan would go on to form the core of his personal guard until the day he died.  Though some consider the death of the First King as a failure of the Lae-Daudr, they tend to view it differently; they helped ensure that he lived a long and prosperous life. Each warg must return to Jord in the end, and none can escape it forever.

A Short History of Highwarg

Hnuun the Loyal || Founding Highwarg of Lae-Daudr, they were the bodyguard of Havardr and died in a treetop race.

Pelléia the Honourable || Pelléia ascended to the position after Hnuun unexpectedly lost his life in 361A. They reigned for several years until they were killed in one of the assaults of the Civil War.

Gísla the First Among Wargs || Gísla took up the mantle of Highwarg after Pelléia’s death in the Civil War in 460A. Greatest Highwarg of Lae-Daudr and First Archmage of the Woodwarg, she was later killed in a skirmish on the Jotunheim borders of the Western Runeward zone.

Erikké the Follower || Ascended to Highwarg from the Senwarg position after Gísla’s death in 705A. He later passed away from the wasting sickness.

Berinon || The current Highwarg of the Lae-Daudr who ascended in 800A.

Clan Culture & Values

Sing together in life, sleep together in death.

The Lae-Daudr are identifiable by a particular loop braid worn in their mane. The woven strands represent the togetherness of the wargs of the clan, connected from beginning to end. They are the birth clan of Gisla, the first Archmage, and brandish that fact with great pride as a clan unafraid to challenge rote tradition. The Lae-Daudr consider themselves protectors and stewards of the joys of life and every warg’s right to experience them, confident in their endeavors to a fault. Many of the woodwargs’ most productive farms and ranches are run by Lae-Daudr, and they tend to take on jobs that other wargs might find too unsavory.

  • Preservation: The good things in life must be protected, lest they be lost.
  • Trust: The bond of trust between wargs is sacred, and should never be betrayed.
  • Creativity: Complex problems require complex, and sometimes unorthodox, solutions.
  • Positivity: No bad situation was ever made better by complaint. A bright outlook is key to a bright outcome.

Clan Politics

Eik-Saer Clan

Status: Neutral

The Lae-Daudr have little concern for the Eik-Saer, and generally consider them to be a self-important lot with their heads floating above the treetops. While deer-friend is an honorific to the Eik-Saer, to the Lae-Daudr it’s a gentle tease meaning something akin to ‘airhead.’ Though on the surface they take the Bjarkin-Kind feud with the Eik-Saer very seriously, the whole thing is a bit of a joke to them, and it would not be uncommon to catch a smirk on the lips of a Lae-Daudr when the subject is mentioned.

Clan Festivals & Events

Initiation

In order to become a member of the Lae-Daudr, a Warg must race the Highwarg amongst the treetops of Glimé. These races are only held once a year, in the dead of Winter. The race is perilous, as the boughs are often icy, and a misplaced paw could send a warg tumbling through the canopy. Though wargs are stationed at key points along the route to render aid if necessary, deaths during the initiation are not unheard of. Hnuun herself died from a fall while running the race, after all.

Ascension

The ceremony of ascension to Senwarg is a simple affair. The new Senwarg must appear in front of a congregation of Lae-Daudr at their clan hall and weave a new loop braid into the great wreath of ropes that overhangs the hall. Ascension to highwarg is a little more involved, and the warg in question must write and sing an epic ballad that speaks of their past accomplishments and future intentions. Then they must perform this ballad in front of a congregation of heckling Lae-Daudr, themselves in competition with one another to spin the most creative insults. The candidate must successfully survive the roasting and finish their performance before being accepted as Highwarg of the Lae-Daudr.

Jordstune

Jordstune is a weeklong music festival held during the summer. It’s meant to be more of a celebration of the act of making music than the skill of musicianship - wargs of all ability levels are invited to perform, and though some are far more popular than others, most are held in equal regard. Tales say that Hnuun herself had a terrible singing voice but sang just the same for the joy of it. To a Lae-Daudr, living a full and joyous life is the truest praise to Jord, and this festival is a testament to that entirely, though sometimes the festivities might stray a bit too far into drunken rowdiness for polite society.
